As March begins and I flip through the months ahead on my 2025 calendar it makes me realize that shortly many of us will be packing and hitting the road for summer music festivals. Festival Season officially begins roughly 60 days from now on May 8th with the opening day of Sonic Temple in Columbus, Ohio. There is solid well known festivals as well as all new and second year festivals to pick from this year! Lineups are stacked and some we are still anticipating the releases. From May to September the weather is hot and the music and atmospheres of festivals grounds will radiate through the summer days and nights. With so many festivals now available to fans I felt it my duty to review the lineups and the ins and outs of each location and put together “Vin's 2025 Top 5 USA Summer Metal & Rock Festivals To Attend"

#5 Never Early Fest; Baltimore, Maryland.
This festival is on it's second year and has grown enough to move to the Power Plant Live complex. There is a mixture of Rock and Metal on the bill from signed and unsigned bands such as A Skylit Drive, Sponge, The Pietasters, Sumo Cyco, Weighing In and Rundown DMV. This is unofficially a two day event with the pre-show on 5-30-25 at Zen West with Wheatus headlining and the main event on 5-31-25 with a soon to be announced headliner at Power Plant Live. Why did this event make my list? The venue and city is amazing in late May, the lineup is diverse and fun and for under $52.00 you can get a ticket to join the party. You definitely do not want to miss Never Early Fest.

#4 Sonic Temple; Columbus, Ohio.
Sonic Temple/Rock On The Range has been around for a long time and the lineups are always stacked. The 2025 edition brings you for headliners one of the stops on the Metallica No Repeat Weekend Tour, Korn and Linkin Park. The under card brings you everything a Metal and Rock fan could ask for from Motionless In White and GWAR to a festival opening set by Silly Goose and a classic throwback by Jimmy Eat World. The Historic Crew Stadium provides tons of black top parking, stage locations are in areas that do not become mud holes during rain, plenty of bathrooms and mist tents and shade under the grandstands of the stadium. Why did this event only make #4 on my list? You get a lot with a pass but man do you pay for it. As Knocked Loose says “happiness comes with a price."
#3 Michigan Metal Fest; Battle Creek, Michigan.

Michigan Metal Fest is one of the last privately owned successful music festivals out there. The lineup will drop in March and I can guarantee you Steve and the Gang have it stacked! Previous headlining sets have been performed by Hatebreed, Attila, White Chapel, Mushroomhead and more. The under card is always full of unsigned artists from all over the USA. The Leila Arboretum is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen a music event held. The vendor and band merch areas are filled with a variety of goods, foods and beverages. Last year for under $60 you had a general admission pass and they ran a program where Veterans and Active Duty Service Personal came in for free. Why did this event make my list? Supporting local and small business is extremely important and Steve and the Michigan Metal Fest Committee give you a solid reason to visit Michigan in August to get your music festival fill and leave satisfied.
#2 Inkcarceration; Mansfield, Ohio.

Inkcarceration is held yearly on the grounds of the historic Ohio State Reformatory aka Shawshank Prison. If you have not been it's hard to explain the experience and feeling of moshing, dancing, crowd surfing, screaming and singing to your favorite bands with tens of thousands of your fellow metal fans with Shawshank Prison as the back drop. Everything is just amplified with this massive haunting stone castle in the picture which has a walk through haunted house that is semi open on festival weekend. This year's edition brings the almighty Knocked Loose to the main stage for the first time on Friday, to say this set will be historic is an under statement. Headliners include Falling In Reverse, Slipknot and Three Days Grace 2X. The under card is unbelievable with bands from I Prevail to Lamb Of God to Marilyn Manson to The Dillinger Escape Plan to the first ever USA Festival performance by The Browning.
#1 Louder Than Life; Louisville Kentucky

KING of Vin's 2025 Top 5 USA Summer Metal & Rock Festivals To Attend list should be no surprise. LTL has been around forever and continues to bring the fans solid lineup after solid lineup. This year's headliners include a promised Slayer performance that was canceled last year due to a hurricane, Avenged Sevenfold, Deftones and Bring Me The Horizon. The under card has every rock and metal band you can think of from Lamb of God to Tech N9ne to Queensryche with tons of reunions and farewells. The festival takes place at the Kentucky Expo Center and the parking, camping and stage areas are usually very good (except in the case of those September hurricanes). The dates are September 18th through the 21st and the weather will still be warm and wonderful in Kentucky. After viewing the lineup and knowing the location and the weather for that time of the year any metal or rock fan will agree that Louder Than Life on paper is the best festival to attend in 2025.
Creating this list took a lot of time and research. It's solely based on my opinion and we all know what opinions are like. In the end my goal of you reading this list is that you buy a ticket to a summer music festival and go. Music festivals have grown from back alley events on the sides of bars and clubs to massive events held on major event grounds. Every festival people are making memories that they will have for the rest of their lives and it is because they chose to buy the ticket and plan the trip. Hopefully this list helps you make a final decision on where you are going for your summer music festival destination in 2025 and now you can plan your trip LFG!
